The Mystical Powers of Sunflowers

The weather was rather crappy in Muskoka last weekend so we headed home early. On the way back I noticed this large field of sunflowers and it drew me in. I met a very kind farming couple who were selling vegetables here. After an interesting chat I asked if it would be OK to setup my tripod for a few shots.  I’m going to print a canvas version and drop it off for all the positive vibrations they have given to others.

One morning I passed a field of sunflowers with their heads all facing in one direction towards the sun. Returning much later in the day, all sunflowers were facing the opposite direction. I found that quite interesting.

I’ve enjoyed all your photos. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Anna,
I had originally written a much longer post about how sunflowers turn and follow the sun. This is called heliotropism and lots of other plants do it. They also have another fascinating attribute and that is the fibonacci spiral, natures numbering system.

Beautiful shot, Ed. I’m sure they will greatly appreciate receiving the canvas print.
