Muskoka Ice Out, T-Minus & Counting

It appears we are in the midst of experiencing a very early ice out. Some locals are saying the ice will disappear from the big lakes by the end of this week or at least before April 1st.  You can see from this photo that the ice is deteriorating quickly. I took this shot on Saturday March 17th, 2012 at the Wallace Marine near Minett, Ontario right on Lake Rosseau.

  1. Oh, I hope so. We have a fishing trip planned for up by North Bay at the end of April and I’m really hoping the ice is out by then. Last year we showed up and the ice was still there – needless to say there were no fish for us. (Sounds like Seinfeld’s Soup Nazi: NO FISH FOR YOU!)
Nice pic, by the way. You are rocking that camera.

I’m worried about the early ice out. We have heron back, and it’s a bit early.
We have mosquitoes as of today. sigh.

Cathy, you should be OK in Nord Bay Eh! – Lots of fish waiting not you are 🙂

Jenn, hopefully we don’t get a prolonged freezing period. That is not good for the returning wildlife.

Its great to see everyone in a great mood as a result of an early spring

Is the ice still there? I can’t imagine it survived this 26 degree heat today?
Love the blog by the way!

ice is out. and yes Ed some of us are worried about trees, gardens and wildlife. bugs are out, to earlier and the temps are going to freeze again. so don’t get to excited about the start just yet. but enjoy the no snow part for now
