Joseph River Marina, R.I.P.

It’s the end of an era in Muskoka.  The Joseph River Marina held an estate type auction sale this past Saturday July 31, 2010. The  Rosenthal family operated this popular marina on Peninsula Rd. near Minett, Ontario for over 35 years. I believe this marina was originally called the Waters Marina prior to Joerg Rosenthal’s purchase back in the early 1970’s. Joerg and his wife Marilyn have left us now and the family has decided to sell everything off and move on. They will be greatly missed.

Words cannot describe my memories here.Such fond, wonderful memories.I’m 51 now and I started getting my gas and candy here when I was 5-6 years old with the old 5 1/2hp Johnson.Great photo,as usual!! Yes,you are indeed correct,it was called “Waters”.

My cousins, Alf and Harry Waters bought the property from Andy English and opened the Waters Marina in 1955. They sold it to Joerg in 1973. Thanks for the photo – brought back fond memories to my Mom.

OH the memories. We would buy our gas and candy while jumping out in bare feet on that old slivery dock, an easy destination from Three Tree House in the 50′ s as kids in our tin boat. Years later, we still called it Waters when our kids did the same. So sad to see these innocent and unaffected places disappear.
